Project Medicine is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) at the University of Washington that provides a variety of events, resources, and programs to help pre-med and pre-health students prepare for their future in medicine.

External Communications Associate

During my second year in Project Med UW, I found that the board was too disorganized for my liking. I felt like I was the only one doing my job and finding opportunities for our members. I did the following things:

  • Hosted a Q&A session with a UWSOM student I met at Swedish Hospital

  • Developed and curated weekly MCAT quizzes, along with educational content for social media

At the end of the year, I decided it was time to part ways with this RSO. While I liked its mission, I had to prioritize where I would be spending my time the next year, and this didn't make the cut due to the lack of communication and direction among the board.

Freshman Representative

In my freshman year, the pandemic limited our ability to meet in-person and organize certain activities, so I did not get to do as much as I had hoped. However, I still participated in the following as the freshman representative:

  • Organized a clothing drive

  • Helped run a pre-med trivia event

  • Created onboarding materials for a mentorship program called Raise Guild

At the end of April, the team got together to play volleyball for a fundraiser ran by CRY (a club at UW that supports children's rights and education in developing countries). It was a great bonding experience, especially since I had only met the board members virtually before. I now feel more comfortable reaching out to the board, and this experience really showed me how important camaraderie is for working together as a team. Unfortunately, I also was reminded that I suck at volleyball :D
